Kerr County Commissioner (Precinct 2) Tom Moser has announced that he will retire from the commissioners’ court, with his last day of service scheduled for Friday, July 23, 2021. Moser made the announcement during Monday morning’s Kerr County Commissioner’s Court session.
Moser has served as the Precinct 2 commissioner since being elected in November 2012, with his current term set to expire in a year and a half. The announcement will mean that Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly will need to appoint someone to fill the vacated seat until the November 2022 election.
Moser had to retire from his current position because of a recent real estate transaction. Moser is selling his ranch and relocating to a different home within the county. By law, commissioners must live in the precinct they represent.
Applications for those interested in serving the remainder of Moser’s term will be accepted through early August, and all applicants must reside in Precinct 2. Kelly is expected to review all applicants before presenting a shortlist of candidates to the commissioners, consider suggestions, before finally announcing an appointee.
During Moser’s time serving as Precinct 2 commissioner he has helped secure Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for the entire Kerr County, helped develop the East Kerr/Center Point Wastewater System and enable Kerr County citizens residing outside the Kerrville city limits to have free access to the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library.
Prior to serving as a Kerr County commissioner, Moser had a long, storied career in the aerospace industry. At the NASA Johnson Space Center from 1963-1986, he served in key management positions including as chief engineer, program manager of the Space Shuttle and Space Station.
Upon returning to Texas from Washington, DC, in 1997, Moser served as the executive director of the Texas Aerospace Commission, where he established Texas Spaceport Authorities.
“It has been my honor to work with the other county commissioners, elected officials and dedicated county employees,” Moser said, upon announcing his retirement.
