Property owners who suffered damages from the February ice and snowstorm can seek federal funding to help cover the costs of repairs, despite whether or not their property was uninsured or only partially covered by insurance. The first step is to call the toll-free FEMA help line at (800) 621-3362.

The deadline to file a claim for Kerr County residents is August 23, 2021. On June 24, Kerr County was granted the FEMA Individual Assistance designation, which meant qualifying local citizens could receive individual federal dollars to help them in the winter storm recovery process.

Citizens needing to register should visit www.disasterassistance.gov., or call 1-800-621-3362.

During Monday’s Kerr county Commissioners’ Court meeting, Kerr County Emergency Management Coordinator Dub Thomas gave a recap saying that there were 338 residential claims paid. The average claim paid was $3,700.

Questions regarding the FEMA IA filing process may be directed to Thomas at (830) 315-2430, or by emailing wthomas@kerr.tx.us.
