The Kerrville Independent School District updated its current COVID-19 protocols after closely monitoring the number of positive COVID-19 cases in district schools. Due to an increase of active cases with both students and staff, some operational adjustments were announced August 27.

Preventative measures include continuous disinfecting of “high contact” areas and commonly touched surfaces. Classrooms, offices and locker rooms will be fogged with Oxivir at least twice a week. Masks are strongly recommended but not required, along with social distancing (3 ft.) when feasible.

Beginning Monday, August 30, water fountains will be turned off, but water filling stations will remain on. Parents are encouraged to send their children to school with a refillable water bottle.

COVID-19 Rapid Result Testing will be available for staff that are symptomatic or “living with a COVID-19 positive person”, effective September 7, to be administered by trained KISD personnel. Student testing will be available beginning September 20, by appointment, upon parent request only. A letter regarding the Campus Rapid Result Testing Program will be published separately.

Other newly implemented protocols include requiring individuals who are living with a COVID-19 positive person to isolate and not attend school or work until certain conditions are met. The individual must remain asymptomatic for 10 days after exposure without testing, or 7 days with a negative COVID-19 test.

People in close contact with a COVID positive person at school or in the community will not be required to quarantine. Parents are encouraged to closely monitor their student’s health for 10 days after close contact and contact a medical professional if their student becomes symptomatic.

KISD will send letters from a student’s respective campus and certain extra-curricular programs to notify parents of positive cases, and the Texas DSHS will receive notification of positive cases.

The KISD COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated at least twice a week, and protocols will be updated based on changes to the public health guidance issued from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Texas elections bill advances to 3rd reading

A bill that will change voting laws in Texas advanced to a third reading in the House after an entire day of debate late Thursday. The House moved the nearly 50-page bill on with a vote of 79-37, mostly a party-line vote. The bill's third reading and final vote are expected to happen Friday. If it passes, it will then go back to the Senate with new amendments, and then potentially to Governor Abbott's desk. The bill is one of […]
