Registration is now open for a COVID-19 vaccine distribution event hosted by the City of Boerne and Kendall County on Thursday, October 21, from 8 a.m. – noon at the Cana Ballroom at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 202 W. Kronkosky St. in Boerne. The site will be administering the Moderna vaccine to those eligible to receive a first or second dose, as well as third dose booster shots.
Those seeking a vaccine are reminded to bring a government issued identification card, if available. Individuals receiving a second or third dose are asked to bring their vaccination card.
Registration for this event is open until 11 a.m., October 20 through the City of Boerne’s website: www.ci.boerne.tx.us. Upon successfully signing up for an appointment, a confirmation email will be sent.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, as of October 13: 60% of all eligible Texans have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine; 51.93% are fully vaccinated against COVID-19; 178,320 active cases; 6,084 hospitalizations; 67,012 confirmed deaths due to the coronavirus.
On Thursday, a 19-member panel for the FDA voted unanimously to recommend a Moderna booster shot for seniors, as well as younger adults with other health problems or those who have jobs or living situations that put them at increased risk from COVID-19. An initial Moderna vaccination consists of two 100-microgram shots, but the company says a single 50-microgram shot should be enough for a booster, six months after the second dose.
The Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee will reconvene Friday and are expected to vote on boosters for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The committee is also expected to hear a presentation regarding mix-and-match vaccines. The FDA authorized the use of Pfizer booster shots last month.
