City of Kerrville designates November 27 as “Small Business Saturday”

Kerrville Mayor Bill Blackburn joined Kerrville Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Brad Barnett on Thursday to proclaim Saturday, November 27 as “Small Business Saturday.” The proclamation urges “the residents of our community, and communities across the country, to support small businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday, and throughout the year.”

According to the United States Small Business Administration, there are 31.7 million small businesses in the United States and they employ 47.1 percent of all employees in the private sector nationally. Recent polls show that U.S. consumers (88%) feel it is even more crucial to support small businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic after 92% of small business owners had to pivot their business strategies in order to remain open during this particular timeframe.

The City of Kerrville says it is imperative that local citizens try to support local businesses as they boost the local economy and help create jobs which, in turn, help preserve communities. National statistics indicate that 65.1% of new jobs created from 2000 to 2019 where those representing small businesses.

Saturday, November 27, is the day after ‘Black Friday’, which is considered to be the busiest shopping day of the year in the U.S.
