The Kerrville Police Department responded to a report of a traffic crash on Thursday, February 3, at approximately 9:29 p.m. on Interstate Highway 10 near mile marker 510, involving a tractor trailer and a Ford F-350 pickup truck within the city limits. According to a press release, the tractor trailer attempted to slow down for traffic that was at a standstill due to inclement weather, before eventually sliding and flipping onto its side and colliding with the other vehicle, seriously injuring the two occupants.
Kerrville Fire EMS was at the scene and both injured parties were transported to Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville where they were listed in critical condition. One of the occupants of the Ford truck succumbed to his injuries at roughly 6:30 a.m. on Friday, February 4. There is no further information regarding the condition of the second occupant of the truck.
KPD is conducting an investigation into the accident, which is in its early stages. At this time, there are no charges pending for the driver of the tractor trailer.
KPD responded to five auto accidents Thursday night, and KPD and the Kerrville Fire Department have responded to 33 calls over the past 24 hours.
Authorities continue to advise residents to stay off roadways if possible and use caution when navigating sidewalks, as KPD assisted with an early morning call regarding a fall which resulted in several broken bones.
