Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar wants to remind all Texans that many emergency preparation items will be tax-free this weekend beginning Saturday, April 23rd at 12:01 a.m. through midnight on Monday, April 25th.
With the recent rash of tornadoes across the state this spring, past icy weather, and all of the statewide wildfires occurring, it is an opportune time to save some money while stocking up on home preparedness kits.
More than eight million people are currently under fire alerts across New Mexico, portions of Wyoming and Nebraska, and western Texas.
In all, more than 19,000 wildfires have been reported this year, according to the Interagency Fire Center.
This is the highest number of fires at this time of the year in any year of the past decade.
