KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Softball team closed out their season in Irving, Texas, yesterday as they fell to Centenary College at the SCAC Softball Championships 5-8.
The Mountaineers were able to hold strong through 5 innings, but unfortunately, a big 6th inning by the Ladies, in which they scored 7 runs, all but put the game away. Schreiner did rally in the bottom of the 7th, scoring 4 runs of their own and cutting the lead down to just 3, but in the end they would come up just short.

“The Mountaineers wasted no time in beginning their comeback attempt as they put runners on second and third with no one out after a Rebecca Gownley double to begin the bottom of the seventh. Moody delievered a run scoring single a few batters later to cut the lead to 8-2 and loaded the bases. One batter later Kaylee Culpepper drew a bases loaded walk to make it 8-3. Taci Tatum tallied an RBI sac fly that scored Danielle Pedraza from third. On the ensuing relay, a run-down ensued which allowed Mikayla Briggs to score from second to pull to within 8-5.”
Leading the way on offense for Schreiner was Haley Pair who finished with a Home Run and an RBI.
The Mountaineers will finish their strong season under 1st year Head Coach Melissa Hansen with an overall record of 16-27, 2 SCAC Hitter of the Week honors, 2 SCAC Pitcher of the Week honors, Sophmore outfielder Danielle Pedraza being named ALL-SCAC 1st team, and a trip to the SCAC Softball Championships.
