Gillespie County Animal Control has confirmed that a stray cat found near North Cherry Street tested positive for rabies. On May 16, Animal Control received a report of a stray cat scratching a person. Residents are encouraged to not feed or attempt to pet stray animals.
According to the city’s Animal Control Ordinance, it is unlawful for an animal to run at large, and all dogs and cats must be current on their rabies vaccinations. Texas requires that dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets be vaccinated by four months of age.
Anyone bitten or scratched by a stray animal is urged to seek medical attention and contact Animal Control at (830) 997-1907, or the Fredericksburg Police Department at (830) 997-7585.
