Kerrville, TX — February 7, 2026 — The Schreiner University Men’s Tennis team opened its home competition day with a decisive 5–2 victory over Howard Payne University, showcasing dominant doubles play and composed, disciplined performances throughout singles action.​

Mountaineers Sweep Doubles to Set the Tone

Schreiner took complete control early, winning all three doubles courts to earn the opening point:

  • Line 1: Ernesto Gonzalez‑Molina / Jason Soto Jr. cruised to a powerful 6–1 win. 
  • Line 2: Ari Nadler‑Torres / Andrew Reyes battled through a tiebreak to win 7–6(7–4)
  • Line 3: Mason Thomas / Edgardo Flores sealed the sweep with a clutch 7–6(7–5) victory.

With all three doubles teams earning wins, Schreiner grabbed a 1–0 lead and carried that momentum into singles.

Schreiner Closes Out the Match in Singles

The Mountaineers continued their strong play, capturing four singles courts to secure the team win:

  • No. 2 — Noah Salas: Calm and consistent from start to finish, winning 6–3, 6–2.
  • No. 3 — Jason Soto Jr.: Fought through long games to take a straight‑set victory 6–4, 7–5
  • No. 4 — Ernesto Gonzalez‑Molina: Earned another SU point with a focused 6–3, 7–5 win. 
  • No. 5 — Mason Thomas: Closed out a tight second‑set tiebreak to win 6–2, 7–6(8)

Schreiner’s depth was on full display, as the team clinched the match before play concluded on the remaining courts.
