If you’re a Josh Groban fan, you probably know that he got his big break when producer David Foster hired him to sing “The Prayer” with Celine Dion at a Grammy rehearsal as a stand in for Celine’s actual duet partner, Andrea Bocelli. So it’s no wonder that he’s delighted that the Canadian diva is making a comeback this fall.
As previously reported, Celine will do a residency in Paris starting Sept. 12, marking her first full-length shows since 2020. Speaking to the Press Association, Josh said he thought the news was fantastic, adding, “For all of us that have known Celine and root for her, and especially with the health struggles she’s been so honest about … how can you not be jumping for joy?”
“To know that this artist that has given us so much and loves to do so, now has this opportunity to do things on her terms and to allow us to come and love her, I think all we want to do is just cheer for her,” he added. “And so to be able to have her on stage again is going to be really special. I certainly hope to see it myself.”
Josh and Celine most recently sang “The Prayer” together in 2019, during Celine’s show at London’s Hyde Park Festival. Although they haven’t spoken since then, Josh said, “I always just hold her in my heart as … somebody who does things all the right ways. She’s an inspiration to all of us, she she really puts her all into everything, and she’s as kind as she seems.”
Josh is currently in the U.K. performing on his current GEMS World Tour, which arrives in North America in June. His new album, Cinematic, is due May 8.
