2024 was quite a momentous year for Riley Green

He scored his fourth #1 with his Ella Langley-assisted duet “You Look Like You Love Me,” earned his first CMA Award, launched his Ain’t My Last Rodeo Tour and sent single “Damn Good Day to Leave” to country radio.

“It’s crazy to see the amount of songs that are becoming hits kind of on their own, too. I mean, obviously ‘Damn Good Day to Leave’ climbing the charts at country radio, ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ was such a viral TikTok kind of thing, which is really new to me, and then ‘Worst Way’ is a song that just jumped off the page [on] that first EP at the beginning of [2024] and kind of became a hit on its own,” Riley shares with ABC Audio.

“It’s a cool time and [2024’s] been a great year, and the crowds are getting bigger and the shows are getting bigger, so it’s a lot of fun,” he says.

Riley attributes the success of “Damn Good Day to Leave” to its feel-good tempo and story.

“Well, it’s a fun breakup song, which you don’t hear a lot of,” he notes. “I just love the mentality of, you know, she left, but the fish are biting, it will be all right. It’s kind of [a] light-hearted thing. And [the] production of it came out great.”

“It’s one of those songs you want to roll the window down and turn up, and it’s been an awesome song to play live,” Riley says. “It’s always fun to watch these songs … climbing the charts [and] how much louder the crowd sings it every week.”

Riley’s Damn Country Music Tour kicks off March 27 in British Columbia.
