Schreiner University will be closed Friday, February 12, and all classes are canceled due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions. Most campus operations will also be closed.
University officials are requesting that off-campus students and employees stay home and refrain from coming to campus.
Schreiner University will continue to monitor local weather conditions over the weekend, and advise if necessary for Monday, February 15.
Kerr County offices will be closed Friday, including non-essential offices in the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville, as well as the Ingram annex offices.
County officials want to stress to citizens that, even though regular offices are closing, there will not be any interruptions in emergency services. Law enforcement and other emergency responders will continue to operate 24/7.
The Friday closures will piggyback onto what was already planned as a three-day holiday weekend, since the county offices are scheduled to be closed Monday, February 15, in observance of Presidents Day, a federal holiday.
Kerr County offices will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, February 16, and the next scheduled countywide holiday/closure being on Good Friday, April 2.
The National Weather Forecast is calling for the extreme cold weather to last for a few days and travel is discouraged. If you must travel, it is advised you take flashlights, food, water. blankets and other provisions with you, in case your vehicle should slide off the road.
County officials are asking residents to take additional steps to provide warmth and shelter for household members, including pets. It is encouraged for citizens to look out for neighbors who may be particularly vulnerable during such low temperatures.
