Kerr County residents who are seeking to qualify for disaster aid to help pay for some of their costs related to the extreme February winter storm back in February must file their claims by the end of business hours on Monday, August 23. “The deadline for anyone hoping to get FEMA funds to fix burst pipes, damaged heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, refrigerators and other appliances damaged during that severe ice and snow storm back in February is by the end of the business day Monday, August 23,” said Kerr County Emergency Management Coordinator Dub Thomas.
Due to Kerr County’s late inclusion in the IA designation, the first step for citizens seeking to apply for its assistance is to call FEMA’s toll-free help line at 1-800-621-3362 to register, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. daily. After FEMA adds an individual’s name to their system as a potential claimant, the actual filing can proceed online by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov.
Individuals are asked to upload any documents that support their claims of damages, such as photos or receipts of the materials needed to complete the repairs. When filing for assistance, please have other information on hand, such as a current contact number, address at the time of the disaster, Social Security number, general list of damage and losses and any additional insurance policy numbers.
Questions about the filing process may be directed to Thomas at (830) 315-2430 during regular business hours, or by emailing wthomas@co.kerr.tx.us.
