Ingram PD reminds citizens to plan ahead for NY Eve and don’t drink and drive

With New Year’s Eve just a couple of days away, TXDOT wants to remind everyone to plan a sober ride and never drink and drive.

In Texas, a person is legally intoxicated and may be arrested and charged with DWI with a .08 BAC (blood or breath alcohol concentration). A person is also intoxicated if impaired due to alcohol or other drugs regardless of BAC. Drivers and passengers can be fined up to $500 for having an open alcohol container in a vehicle.

TXDOT advises designating a sober driver before you start drinking, use a rideshare service or call a sober friend for a safe ride home. If none of those options are viable, it is recommended to spend the night where you are, rather than drive yourself home after a night of partying.

Penalties for a DWI can range from hefty fines, jail time and even a loss of a driver’s license. Anyone convicted of a DWI with a child passenger will be charged with Child Endangerment if the child is under fifteen years old and additional jail time and fines will be added.
