A winter weather storm of mostly low, freezing temperatures with a chance of precipitation is expected in the Hill Country beginning late Wednesday afternoon. According to Kerr County Emergency Management Coordinator Dub Thomas, “This storm will not come close to the devastating snow and ice event we experienced last February, but initial reports are showing it will bring very cold temperatures in the low teens.”

County officials are reminding residents to make necessary accommodations to preserve the safety of their homes, families, pets and even plants.

Some suggested winter storm preparations include:

Make sure your faucets and pipes are covered and insulated.

Have your home’s heating source checked and topped off, if needed.

Fill a 5-gallon container with water in advance, just in case your water supply freezes. The water can potentially be used for cooking, cleaning, etc…

Collect wood for your fireplace, if you have a fireplace.

Bring in all pets, and plants.

Thomas stated that he is meeting with state officials Tuesday regarding any updates on the weather front. All up-to-date weather information will be posted on the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, as well as the Kerr County website.

According to the NOAA National Weather Service, who have already issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook:

On Wednesday: chance of rain is 70-90%.

Thursday: Expect freezing rain, highs not expected to exceed 28 degrees.

Friday: Sun will come out, Highs expected to hit 34 degrees, Lows are anticipated to be 16 degrees.

Saturday’s lows are predicted to be 21 degrees, with highs hitting 43 degrees.
