Weddings are always an exciting occasion for any couple, with many couples spending several weeks following their “big day” opening (and returning) wedding gifts from their well-meaning guests. Becky Babb and Ryan McBride are scheduled to wed on April 9 and are requesting that those invited make a heartfelt donation to a cause which has become so important to them, in lieu of having an actual wedding registry.
Babb revealed that as the pair’s relationship began to blossom into something much more, their animals where always a big part of their journey, all five of them. In addition, the family oftentimes serves as a foster home for numerous puppies and dogs; their fourteen-year old daughter continues to volunteer at Kerr County Animal Services.
Babb’s passion for helping make a difference in people’s lives is what has led to her working in the field of substance abuse treatment. However, her drive to assist others doesn’t exclude her four-legged friends. She has been serving on the Kerrville Pets Alive! board since the organization was first established, with her focus being on finding ‘forever homes’ for dogs many others might deem less adoptable.
KPA!’s mission statement is to save animals in Kerr County from euthanasia, along with helping coordinate area efforts in providing affordable vaccinations for families and assist in adoption and micro-chipping events. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit animal welfare organization has also assisted in helping to provide pet food for many Kerr County households. KPA! continues to provide aid during unforeseen situations, as well, such as the 2021 Winter Storm Uri.
Babb and McBride say they are more than happy to forego the traditional blender wrapped in white wrapping paper. Instead, the soon-to-be-hitched couple is requesting that their wedding guests make a donation to KPA! Anyone, guest or not, who would like to donate to KPA! can do so by visiting www.kerrvillepetsalive.com.
The KPA! office does accept other types of donations, such as dog and cat food, pet toys, kitty litter and bedding supplies. Their office is located at 414 Clay Street, and is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
