Per the National Weather Service, a heavier round of freezing rain and embedded light sleet will continue through Wednesday morning, with the heaviest icing impacting across most of the Hill Country and into the I-35 corridor. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Kerrville through Thursday morning.
According to the Kerrville Street Department, all bridges (including TXDOT owned) and standard problem inclines inside the city limits have been treated with magnesium chloride and gravel. Seven additional locations were added for treatment overnight. Treatment operations will continue, but all streets and bridges are passable at this time. Due to rainfall and wet streets, ice on road surfaces cannot be readily identified and additional caution should be used.
City officials report that most elevated surfaces, vehicles, sidewalks and driveways have a thin film of ice with little accumulation on trees. No power outages have been observed.
The Kerr County Sheriff’s Department states that all roads are open but encourages residents to stay home, if possible. According to Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha, “There is some ice on some bridges throughout the county, but most of the ice is in the western section of Kerr County. All sheriff deputies are out continuously monitoring the situation.”
Both city and county officials encourage those who do get out to use extreme caution and drive slow
