As spring winds continue, the Public Works Department is providing some tips for helping keep trash and recyclable materials from being blown onto streets and lawns. It is suggested that residents place bins at the street the morning of service rather than the night before. Trash and recycling bins are lightweight, meaning they tend to roll easily or blow over. Less time at the curb reduces the chance of materials being scattered.
Residents are asked to make sure all trash is bagged before being placed in the trash bin. While plastic bags are not acceptable in recycle bins, customers may place recyclables in paper bags with folded tops in the recycling bin on windy days. Since recyclable materials is very lightweight, grouping it in a paper bag will help keep it from being strewn on streets and lawns.
