Mountaineers go 2-1 in Conway

Conway, Ark. — Schreiner University Women’s Volleyball battled through a competitive weekend at Grove Gymnasium, earning a thrilling five-set victory over Hendrix before falling just short in another five-set match against Austin College.

The Mountaineers opened the weekend with a 3–0 sweep over Dallas (25–14, 25–14, 25–22) to extend their winning streak and maintain strong momentum in conference play. Setter Azalea De Leon directed the offense with 10 assists, while Jenna Palomarez anchored the back row with 9 digs. Jesse Garner led the attack with 6 kills, and Giana Hilliard added 6 more as Schreiner hit .216 as a team.

In their second match of the day, Schreiner outlasted Hendrix in a five-set thriller, 3–2 (25–21, 25–22, 15–25, 23–25, 22–20). Hilliard turned in a dominant performance with 15 kills and 19 digs, while Mackenzie Strban added 13 Kills.. Palomarez led the defense once again with 23 digs as Schreiner earned its 18th win of the season.

On Sunday, the Mountaineers battled hard but fell to Austin College 3–2 (25–20, 16–25, 15–25, 25–18, 17–15). Jesse Garner again led the way with 14 kills, while Gianna Hilliard contributed 12 kills, respectively. Palomarez notched 34 digs, and Gallaspy tallied 26 assists as the Mountaineers rallied from a 2–1 deficit to force a deciding set.

Coach Jeremiah Tiffin added “Disappointing end after a great start to the weekend. We battled against a good Austin team and didn’t make it happen today. Overall we’re happy to get two wins this weekend and taking some momentum into our last couple of weeks of conference play.”

Schreiner closes the weekend at 19–5 overall and 10–2 in SCAC play, continuing to prove itself as one of the conference’s top contenders heading into the final stretch of the season.
