Following four successful sessions, the City of Kerrville is now accepting applications for its fifth Citizens Government Academy, a 10-week free program designed to engage residents and provide a behind-the-scenes look at city operations and services. While this program includes an overview and tour of Kerrville’s public safety operations, it is separate from the Kerrville Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy, which is no longer accepting applications for Spring 2026.
The Academy offers an interactive learning experience featuring classroom discussions, facility tours, and hands-on activities with staff. Participants will gain insight into the work of City Council, Public Works, Police and Fire, and other municipal services – building a stronger understanding of how the city operates and serves the community.
The Kerrville Citizens Government Academy consists of ten weekly sessions, each lasting approximately three hours. Some sessions will include tours of city facilities to enhance the learning experience.
To be eligible for the Citizens’ Government Academy, participants must:
~Be a resident of Kerrville, own a business in Kerrville, or volunteer in Kerrville
~Be at least 18 years of age
~Not be running for political office during the program period
~Not be a current member of the Kerrville City Council
~Not have previously participated in the Citizens Government Academy
~Commit to attending all sessions
Applications are due by Feb. 28, 2026. For more information, visit www.kerrvilletx.gov/2092/Citizens-Government-Academy.
