The City of Kerrville has moved to an increased level of readiness and is preparing for potential heavy rainfall, flash flooding and severe weather later this week. Current forecasts indicate widespread rainfall totals of 2-4 inches, with isolated amounts potentially reaching 8 inches. The greatest potential for heavy rainfall is currently expected Thursday, although uncertainty remains regarding exactly where the heaviest rain will fall.
City crews and public safety personnel are preparing now:
~Barricades have been staged at low-water crossings, bridges and flood-prone roadways.
~Several hundred sandbags have been filled, with pallets positioned in flood-prone areas.
~Crews are clearing drainage areas and addressing infrastructure damaged during previous flooding.
~Fire and EMS are preparing swift-water rescue resources for rapid deployment.
~Public Works is monitoring critical water and wastewater infrastructure.
~Emergency Management is coordinating with Kerr County, state partners and designated shelter locations.
Citizens are reminded to remain weather aware over the next several days and be prepared for conditions to change. Most importantly, never drive around barricades or attempt to cross a flooded roadway. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
The City will continue monitoring conditions and provide additional updates as the forecast becomes clearer.
