CVS to begin vaccination partnership in Texas Monday

CVS Health will begin vaccinating residents and staff members at Texas long-term care facilities for COVID-19 starting Monday. Vaccines are expected to be in more than 2,000 nursing and assisted living facilities, and more than 275,000 patients will be vaccinated through the program in Texas.

CVS rolled out its vaccination partnership in 12 states last week, and Texas is part of 36 states that will begin the vaccination process. In all, the program will provide vaccinations for 4 million long-term care residents and staff at more than 40,000 facilities in the country.

The U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services picked CVS Health as one of two providers to administer the vaccines in long-term care facilities through Operation Warp Speed. CVS Health is also expected to distribute the vaccine when it becomes widely available later in 2021.

Nurses at Hill Country Memorial Hospital administered the first of 700 Moderna vaccines. This was Fredericksburg’s first initial shipment of the new vaccines to help build immunity to COVID-19.

The Kerrville VA Medical Center began administering COVID-19 vaccines to healthcare workers and veterans living in long-term care facilities last week. The Kerrville location is one of 37 VA medical centers across the state to receive a supply of the Pfizer vaccine, and according to the South Texas Veterans Health Care System CEO Christopher R. Sandles, “We are dedicated to ensuring all veterans receiving care at Kerrville VA and our employees are ultimately offered the vaccine.”
