After postponing the annual event last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 3rd “Shatter the Stigma 5k Fun Run/Walk is set for Saturday, June 26 at the Schreiner University Trailhead Beer Garden. Event organizer’s goals are to raise awareness about mental health and help people begin erasing the stigma too often associated with the topic of mental illness.
People are encouraged to pre-register for the 8:30 a.m. start time by going to www.athleteguild.com/running/kerrville-tx/2021-shatter-the-stigma-5k-fun-runwalk, but can also sign up on the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. Pre-registration fees are $35 per-person, $30 per-person for groups of four or more participants and $40 per-person on Race Day.
Numerous awards will be given out including overall winners, age group winners and an award for the most Spirited Team award. All of those registered will receive T-shirts to commemorate the day.
After the race, there will be a short talk regarding the importance of educating the public on keeping the lines of communication open inside all of our communities when it comes to the subject matter of mental health, especially after living and navigating through a pandemic. There will also be live music and light refreshments for those wishing to enjoy a few weekend hours along the river setting.
