Area food banks seeking donations

Supply chain issues and inflation may be affecting area food banks, resulting in half-empty shelves and the need for donations from the public.

The Fredericksburg Food Pantry is a non-profit relying entirely on food and monetary donations, serving roughly 2,100 families and more than 7,300 individuals in a given year. The food pantry last received a shipment of food on July 19 and are especially seeking frozen or canned meats along with other non-perishable items.

Anyone wishing to donate food items can do so by bringing them to the facility at 701 Mustang Street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-5 p.m. Monetary donations can be sent to the Fredericksburg Food Pantry, P.O. Box 2165, Fredericksburg, TX 78624.

The Salvation Army Food Pantry in Kerrville says that their inventory is running low and are asking for non-perishable food donations such as rice, canned produce, canned meats, soups, cereals and boxed pastas. Families receiving food items from the Kerrville site typically get grocery bags filled with foods depending on the size of the family’s household.

Individuals and businesses interested in more information regarding donating to the Salvation Army Food Pantry can call (830) 257-3620, or drop by the site, located at 855 Hayes Drive. The Food Pantry is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
