Baker & Taylor, one of the nation’s oldest and largest library vendors, has announced that it will cease operations later this year, bringing an end to more than a century of service supplying books and digital content to libraries across the country.
For decades, Baker & Taylor has been a primary source of print books, DVD’s, and digital materials for the libraries. The company’s closure marks a significant change in the public library marketplace, as institutions nationwide reevaluate purchasing and distribution channels for their collections.
The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library has already begun diversifying its vendors. However, such a major disruption within the library will likely result in some temporary service interruptions. For the library’s eBook and eAudio users, the library will be able to support requests via the popular Libby App. Additionally, Libby will be making it possible to shift many of the Boundless titles to the Libby platform.
Additional updates will be shared as information becomes available. For the latest information on library services and materials, visit www.kerrvilletx.gov/library, or call the library reference desk at (830) 258-1274.
