Boerne ISD trustees have adopted a slightly lower property tax rate

Boerne ISD trustees have adopted a slightly lower property tax rate for the coming year while launching a new public information series aimed at explaining how school funding works in Texas.  At a board meeting held Tuesday, the BISD Board of Trustees adopted a tax rate of $1.0065, a decrease of $0.0044 from the previous year, according to a district press release.

Chief Financial Officer Wesley Scott said the district has worked for the past decade to lower the tax rate while also pushing for increased state funding for public education.  The district said that since Superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft began leading Boerne ISD, the district has cut more than $1.5 million from Central Office expenditures.  The district also cited a recent efficiency audit that found Boerne ISD’s administrative team makes up 4.2% of total staff, which the district said is 0.02% less than peer districts.

Despite those cuts, the district says it remains among the few in Texas to earn seven straight A-ratings from the Texas Education Agency.  The district also reported a 99% graduation rate and a 98% College Career Military Readiness rate.

Additionally, the district is launching a “Dollars and Sense” series, with the first session scheduled for Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at Central Office.  The district said the sessions will be held monthly, covering topics including how schools are financed in Texas and how taxpayer dollars are used.  The district said the sessions are open to the public.

Boerne ISD said it serves more than 11,180 students across Kendall, Comal, and Bexar counties.
