Boerne PD warns of scam callers

The Boerne Police Department is warning community members of scam callers.  In a department Facebook post, residents recently reported that someone was calling them pretending to be a Boerne PD officer.  According to these reports, the caller falsely claims the person missed jury duty and is facing arrest unless they pay money immediately.  Boerne PD says they will never demand money over the phone or threaten you with arrest because you refuse to make a payment.  This is a scam.

If you receive a call like this:

~Do not send money or provide financial information over the phone

~Never provide personal information

~Hang up and verify the call is real through an official number

~Boerne PD’s number is 830-249-8645.  You can contact them if you get a call from someone claiming to be from Boerne PD.

The Pew Research Center found that 73% of adults in America had fallen for some kind of scam that caused them to lose money.  Of those adults, 24% had lost money due to a scam call or text message.
