The Eastland family, which owns and operates Camp Mystic, has transferred control of the camp’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to two independent fiduciaries, according to court documents.
The Kerr County camp and some organizations affiliated with operations filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June. The filing came about a year after 28 people, including 27 campers and counselors, died when the deadly July 2025 floods swept through the area. According to court documents, the Eastland family has transferred their responsibility to two Independent Fiduciaries.
Attorney Mark Andrews will oversee two camp-related business entities and former Bankruptcy Judge Craig Garotta will manage a third company that owns property. The move means the Eastland family will no longer make decisions about the bankruptcy proceedings or the civil litigation.
The change comes as families continue seeking accountability after the deadly 2025 flood. The five wrongful death lawsuits will be permitted to move forward on November 9th. After the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings – in June it put a pause on any current or future litigation. On Monday, that pause will end.
