City of Kerrville begins collecting curbside flood debris Monday

The City of Kerrville Public Works Department will begin phased curbside debris collection Monday, Aug. 24.  Following several weeks of collecting and reviewing property owners survey responses and conducting site visits, Public Works staff says it has gathered sufficient information to develop collection routes.

Residents are asked to place only items that were damaged by the recent floods in the right of way.  Limiting debris to flood-damaged materials will help crews maintain efficient routes and complete this effort as quickly as possible.  Once crews have cleared a street based on the information collected through the surveys and site visits, they will not return to that street during this initial sweep.  Crews will begin in west Kerrville and work eastward through identified areas.

During the initial sweep, crews will collect items placed within the right of way, including:

~Household items damaged by the recent floods

~Flood-damaged furniture

~Flood-damaged construction debris

~Other eligible flood-damaged household materials

Brush, vegetative material and metal debris will be addressed after the initial sweep.  Public Works will provide additional information regarding the collection of these materials as plans are finalized.  Residents should follow the flood debris collection guidelines at https://www.kerrvilletx.gov/2026-Flood-Recovery.

Public Works is coordinating with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to obtain approval for a site where brush and other vegetative debris can be processed for further disposition.  There is an approval process for this via TCEQ and staff is looking at getting the request expedited.

Residents are asked not to place the following items in the right of way:

~Tires

~Household hazardous waste, including paint, pesticides, fuel and oil

~Appliances that previously contained Freon or other refrigerants

~Chemicals or other materials identified as hazardous waste

Prior to the curbside collection effort, more than 30 tons of debris were removed through strategically placed dumpsters, in addition to debris collected with assistance from volunteers and community organizations.
