City of Kerrville gives SH 16 Bridge repair update

The City of Kerrville wants to update the public on repairs being done to the Sh 16 Bridge repairs following the July 2026 flooding, which caused significant damage to TxDOT infrastructure along the Guadalupe River.  During the flood event, a large barge was carried downstream and struck the SH 16 bridge.  The impact damaged one of the bridge’s exterior beams.

On August 8, 2026, TxDOT awarded an emergency maintenance contract to a contractor partner to perform the necessary repairs.  The contractor has since installed portable concrete barrier rails to secure the work zone and help ensure the safety of the traveling public, according to a press release.

Prior to replacing the damaged beam, TxDOT coordinated with the utility company to relocate utilities.  Once the utility relocation work is complete, the contractor will be able to begin beam replacement operations.

Following completion of the utility relocation, the repair work is anticipated to take up to three months to complete.  While the schedule remains subject to change, TxDOT will continue to monitor progress and work to complete the repairs as efficiently as possible while maintaining safety, the release says.
