City of Kerrville named Texas Scenic City

The City of Kerrville has been designated a Texas Scenic City by Scenic Texas.  The award was announced Thursday at the 112th annual Texas Municipal League Conference and Exhibition in Houston.

Scenic Texas is the only statewide 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the preservation and enhancement of the state’s visual environment, and the only state nonprofit that solely helps citizens safeguard the scenic qualities of Texas roadways, countryside, and communities.

Scenic Texas was inspired by the visionary leadership of Texas former first lady Lady Bird Johnson, who began the scenic movement during her husband’s presidency and was instrumental in the Highway Beautification Act creation and passage.  The First Lady’s vision was to make America the Beautiful a reality.

“This award reinforces what we all know – that we live, work and play in one of the most beautiful places in Texas,” Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice said.
