Daylight Saving Time officially comes to an end at 2 a.m. Sunday, giving most Americans an extra hour for their day.
Many fire departments and safety organizations encourage people to use the time change as a reminder for household and driving reminders. Consider these chores to your weekend checklist:
~Replace batteries in smoke detectors.
~Test carbon monoxide alarms.
~Change HVAC and air conditioning filters.
~Review emergency preparedness kits.
~Properly dispose of expired medications.
The change can impact you even on the roadways. TxDOT encourages everyone to remain alert, particularly during the first few weeks after the time change when people are adjusting to driving and walking in the darker conditions. Reduce your distractions behind the wheel, watch for pedestrians and cyclists, and allow for extra stopping distance in low-light conditions.
