The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a temporary flight restriction for counties in the Texas Hill Country affected by recent flooding, according to a Thursday news release. The restriction targets aircraft and drones from operating without permission.
“Adherence to the temporary flight restrictions rules must be followed for the safety of all aircraft and ground personnel within the area,” the release said.
Earlier this week, a private drone collided with a rescue helicopter over the Hill Country flood zone. The City of Kerrville posted on its Facebook page, stating that the drone had been operating in restricted airspace. The helicopter made an emergency landing, and no injuries were reported.
