The Fredericksburg City Council rejected the request for a proposal on a Hotel Conference Center with a vote of 3-2 during its regularly scheduled Monday night meeting. The Fredericksburg City Manager began accepting written proposals for the potential development, financing, design, construction and operations last spring, hoping to attract more business space for the city.

At one point, a developer had wanted to build the Seven Hills Resort and Conference Center across from the U.S. Post Office near Highway 87 and 290, but was unable to retain financing for the project. In February, three different developers were looking into building the center at three different locations.

Council did approve extending the contract for the Fredericksburg Art Guild for another three years, and awarded a contract to Halff Associates for a new Comprehensive Plan and Parks Master Plan.
