How you can help those affected in Uvalde

Funeral arrangements have been made for the 21 individuals who lost their lives in the deadly shooting on May 24 at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. 

Texas Governor Greg Abbott urged Texans to keep Uvalde in their prayers while speaking at a Memorial Day event in Longview.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Sunday a review of the law enforcement response. 

Authorities have also said that the shooter purchased two guns shortly after he turned 18, permitting him to buy the weapons under federal law.

A bipartisan group of senators convened over the weekend to see if they could reach any compromises regarding gun safety legislation. 

The same group is scheduled to meet again this week under a 10-day deadline to strike a deal.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be hosting a blood drive at McLane Ford, in Fredericksburg, from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 4.  For additional information, visit www.donor.southtexasblood.org.

The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has set up a fund for those affected in Uvalde and has already raised $1.1 million. 

According to the foundation’s CEO Austin Dickson, It’s sad that we have to raise these funds, but it’s heartening to know that we live in a giving community and a generous country.  Contact the foundation for more details.
