The man accused of killing actor Jonathan Joss appeared in court Thursday as his murder case moved forward.  Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez is charged with murder in connection with Joss’ death last year, court records show.

According to police, Joss was at his property collecting mail when Alvarez allegedly parked behind his vehicle.  The two began arguing, and the confrontation ended with Joss being shot, officers said.  Alvarez’s attorneys have said their client was defending himself.

The case remains in its early stages, but prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed Thursday that evidence collection is now complete.  The attorneys will next meet to determine a potential trial date.  Once a date is established, the remaining pretrial schedule will move forward.

Alvarez has been released on bond.  If the case goes to trial and he is convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
