Kerr County officials want to remind citizens that county offices and departments will be closed on Monday, September 4, in observance of the federal holiday, Labor Day. The one-day closure will affect those departments in the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville, as well as those at the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex, 510 College Street in Ingram.
The county wants to reassure residents that there will be no interruption in emergency services, including those provided by law enforcement, fire and EMS. Business hours will resume as usual on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
In 1894, Congress passed a bill recognizing the first Monday of September as Labor Day and making it a holiday for federal workers. All U.S. states and territories now observe Labor Day as a statutory holiday. After Labor Day, the next holiday to be observed by the local government will be Columbus Day on October 9.
