Kerr County received its 11th confirmed case of rabies this year, according to Kerr County Animal Services Director Reagan Givens. “We were advised on Monday about an ill fox at a residence on Roy Street in Kerrville,” said Givens. Givens added that an animal control officer was dispatched to the scene, collected the animal and sent a specimen to the zoological lab for testing the same day the call came in.
Kerr County Animal Services received word on May 8 that the fox was infected with rabies. There was no known exposure to the animal by humans or family pets, according to the press release.
“The high number of cases this year just underlines the importance for everyone to make sure their family pets are vaccinated against this deadly viral disease,” Givens said. Givens also wants to remind citizens to avoid contact with and feeding of wild animals, including stray dogs and cats.
Anyone who sees an animal acting strangely, or behaving abnormally is asked to make note of its physical description, its exact location, which direction it is headed before calling KCAS at (830) 257-3100.
