Kerr County officials received word Friday, June 25, that the county has received an “Individual Assistance” designation from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This now means that qualifying residents will be able to receive federal dollars to help them recover from damages caused by the extreme winter storm back in mid-February.

Approximately 130 Texas counties applied for the designation and 77 of those were granted “Individual Assistance.” “This is a great day for Kerr County, and all residents who qualify for the federal aid need to take advantage of it,” said Kerr County Emergency Management Coordinator Dub Thomas.

Thomas wants to encourage those interested in seeking assistance under this recent designated channel to apply within 60 days. All appropriate procedures for filing must be followed, and more information is available on the county’s website at:

After several weeks of appealing to local property owners to fill out the FEMA online survey and supply supporting photographs of accompanying damage due to Storm Uri, 576 citizens responded. Property damages were classified into specific categories, including: 3 totally destroyed; 179 suffered major damage; 123 suffered minor damage; 58 were affected and 213 had minimal damage.

Thomas wishes to thank all of those who responded to the survey saying that the resulting financial aid will help many residents “get back to normal.” He concluded by saying, “Thank you for being good neighbors and working together for the benefit of our community.”
