The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office wants to alert the public that there is another new scam happening in the community in which scammers are “spoofing”, or impersonating real local numbers. According to a KCSO press release, scammers are claiming to be a former Chief Deputy while calling local phone numbers in attempt to gain a person’s financial information.
No area law enforcement agency will ever try to collect money over the phone, and will never ask for a person to provide any financial information. Anyone who receives a call requesting credit cards, prepaid card numbers, or other personal information needs to hang up immediately.
Recipients of those types of calls are asked to call (830) 896-1216.
