KFD still seeking donations for matching grant

The Kerrville Fire Department is still seeking donations to support an important need: a six-wheel, all-terrain vehicle.  Currently, the department has been using a golf cart, outfitted for emergency situations, when needed.  Due to its limitations, it can only be used effectively along the Kerrville River Trail.

The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country is matching all donations up to $30,000.  KFD estimates the total cost for the vehicle and accompanying rescue equipment to be roughly $60,000.

According to KFD Chief Eric Maloney, “We’re in need of a utility vehicle that can help with wildfires, water rescue, moving a patient, accessing rough terrain during search and rescue, and helping in ice storms.”

The Kerrville Fire Department is an “all hazard” fire department and has mutual aid agreements with other jurisdictions in surrounding counties.  The proposed vehicle would be used county-wide and possibly regionally, depending on the circumstances.

To date, donations of $6,591 have been made.  Anyone interested in donating or receiving additional information can visit
