The Llano County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a man armed with a gun died after being shot by Llano County deputies early Sunday morning.

According to a press release, a 911 call was made at 5:50 a.m., saying that a man with a gun had fired a shot. Deputies responded to the home on Eula Lane in Kingsland, where they found a man, identified as Justin Harrod, in the yard.

The sheriff’s office reported that deputies witnessed Harrod with a gun and attempted to speak with him, instructing him to drop his weapon.  A spokesperson said that after several minutes, Harrod didn’t drop the gun, “and the situation escalated.”

The statement says that deputies fired their guns, striking Harrod.  Deputies assisted Harrod until EMS arrived at the scene.  Harrod died en route to a waiting helicopter, which was made available for further transport.

The Texas Rangers and the district attorney’s office are investigating the incident.
