The Llano unit of the Hill Country League of Women Voters is hosting a celebration for Women’s Equality Day on Monday, August 26, from 5-7 p.m. at The Falls, 301 Bessemer in Llano. The event will honor Women Business Owners.
2024 is the 104th anniversary of the signing of the 19th Amendment into law. In 1973, Congress designated August 26 as Women’s Equality Day to commemorate the certification of the amendment, which granted women the right to vote. Leagues all over the United States celebrate this day. The state of Texas has the distinction of being the 9th of the necessary 36 states to ratify the 19th Amendment on June 28, 1919.
League of Women Voters of the Hill Country has forty-five years of work focused on registering citizens to vote, informing voters on candidates and issues, and encouraging citizens to vote. The League is a nonpartisan and nonprofit civic organization and does not endorse or oppose candidates for elected office. The Hill Country Texas League serves six counties: Bandera, Blanco, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, and Llano.
