As of January 23, 2026, the Kerr County burn ban is lifted in most areas, but remains in effect specifically for properties within the Guadalupe River flood-affected zones (including land between high-water marks.)  Residents in cleared zones must call the sheriff’s office and local fire department before burning.

Gillespie County Judge Daniel Jones issued a public notice that the burn ban for Gillespie County has been lifted as of Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 12:30 p.m.  The decision to lift the ban came after consultation with the Gillespie County Fire Marshal along with the consensus of the Chiefs of the County’s Fire Departments.  Judge Jones advises that while overall conditions have temporarily improved, there are inconsistent conditions across the County due to variations in rainfall.  All persons are advised to be cognizant of the burning conditions specific to one’s particular area and to use extreme caution when burning.

Kendall County commissioners Tuesday lifted a burn ban after the weekend’s rainfall and ice storm dropped the area fire index well below the “extreme danger” level.  Most of the county received 2 inches or more of precipitation, either in the form of rainfall or melting ice from the weekend storm, according to County Fire Marshal Brady Constantine.  “This offers a window of opportunity for people to mitigate what they have,” Constantine said.
