A memorial cross honoring victims of the deadly July 4 floods is returning to Flat Rock Park in Kerrville after being damaged by floodwaters this summer. The giant cross, which serves as a symbol of faith and resilience for the Kerrville community, was bent when floodwaters surged through the park four months ago.
While the cross was damaged, its concrete foundation remained intact. The cross was sent to Mineral Wells for repairs. An 8-inch concrete footer was installed to help reinforce the structure against potential future flooding, according to Kerr County Precinct 2 Commissioner Rich Paces.
The cross is expected to arrive at Flat Rock Park around noon Friday, Nov. 6, and will be reinstalled shortly afterward. Community members are invited to gather at the park at 3 p.m. Friday for a prayer as the memorial returns.
