Monitoring ERCOT online

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) says it is confident there is enough reserve power on hand to get Texans through the current ice storm. According to ERCOT interim CEO Brad Jones, the state has 15,000 megawatts of power on reserve to use as needed (roughly enough for 11 million homes). The load is expected to peak at 71,000 megawatts Friday morning.

Governor Greg Abbott said on Wednesday that the state isn’t expecting widespread grid issues, but local outages due to snapping tree limbs and ice can’t be ruled out.

Texans can view Texas’ power grid online using ERCOT’s grid and market conditions tools. This dashboard shows operating reserves and grid conditions in real time. Visit:
