KERRVILLE, Texas — As the extreme winter weather creates problems for many residents of the Texas Hill Country, three local organizations have opened their doors for those needing shelter, according to the Kerrville Police Department and Kerrville City Council member Brenda Hughes.
The Salvation Army, located at 855 Hays Street in Kerrville, opened Saturday afternoon at 3 pm.
Capacity at the Salvation Army is limited to 25 people and spouses may need to be in separate facilities due to accommodation limitations.
Meals will be provided to those who shelter at the Salvation Army and if you have any questions, you can contact the Salvation Army at 830-257-6770.
Calvary Temple Church, located at 3000 Loop 534, has opened for those needing shelter Saturday and is available for those needing shelter now.
They have chairs and minimal food on hand (ramen noodles, water, coffee, etcetera) but they do not have cots at this time.
LaFour’s Seafood has stepped in to provide a hot meal to people that are sheltering at Calvary Temple Church Saturday evening.
Residents are welcome to bring blankets and sleeping bags if they have them and Calvary Temple Church is open 24/7.
Follow the orange cones to the entrance and call them if you have any questions at 830-895-3000.
Ingram Tom Moore ISD has opened the high school gymnasium to those seeking shelter Saturday afternoon.
The gym does have water and shower facilities. There will also be blankets available for those that need them.
“Please take advantage of our location if you need it,” said IISD in a Facebook post, Saturday. “You can call Trey Whitten at 830-329-1107 with any questions.”
