Kerrville, TX — February 7, 2026 — The Schreiner University Women’s Tennis team delivered a strong home performance on Saturday, defeating Howard Payne University by a final score of 5–2. The Mountaineers showed resilience across both doubles and singles, claiming key courts and closing out several tight matches to secure the victory. ​​


Doubles Sparks Momentum

Schreiner struck early by winning two of the three doubles courts, securing the first team point of the match.

  • Line 1: Mikinley Jamison / Mackenzie Griffin battled but fell 2–6.​
  • Line 2: Kinverly Ibarra / Maya Jackson delivered a clutch win, taking the set 7–5.​
  • Line 3: Sonnae Garcia / Ally Leonard earned a default victory, giving Schreiner the doubles edge. ​

The 2–1 doubles result gave the Mountaineers a 1–0 team lead heading into singles.


Singles: Schreiner Takes Control

The Mountaineers continued their strong play, securing four additional singles wins to close out the match.

  • No. 3 — Kinverly Ibarra: Outstanding performance, winning 6–1, 2–6, [14–12] in a gritty match that showcased her composure under pressure.​
  • No. 4 — Maya Jackson: Another clutch three‑setter, taking her match 6–2, 3–6, [10–8]. ​
  • No. 5 — Sonnae Garcia: Earned a default win, adding to Schreiner’s lead. ​​
  • No. 6 — Ally Leonard: Also secured a default win to round out Schreiner’s scoring. ​​

Despite competitive efforts from Howard Payne at the top of the lineup, the Mountaineers’ depth proved decisive.
