September is National Preparedness Month, and for more than 20 years, FEMA’s Ready Campaign has been reminding Americans that disasters can strike anywhere at anytime.  This year’s theme, Americans Stand Ready, celebrates a shared spirit of resourcefulness and duty:

~Know Your Risks: Learn which natural disasters or emergencies are most common in your local area.

~Make a Plan: Create a family emergency communication plan and pick safe meeting places.

~Build a Kit: Stock up on non-perishable food, water, and medicine to last at least two weeks.

~Get involved: Connect with your neighbors and support local community resilience.

Weekly Themes include:

~Sept. 1-4: Duty to Yourself

~Sept. 7-11: Duty to Loved Ones

~Sept. 12-18: Prepare for Disasters

~Sept. 19-25: Teach Youth about Preparedness

You can also find toolkits and free checklists at Ready.gov.
